Video Analysis

  1. Set scale: click both ends of an object of known length (like a meter stick), then type its length.
  2. Set origin: click where you want (0, 0). Up and right are positive.
  3. Go to the first frame where the object moves and click t = 0 here.
  4. Mark points: click the object. The video advances automatically after each click.
  5. Graph position or velocity vs. time. Velocities are calculated from neighboring points.

Check the frame rate: most phones record at 30 fps; slow-motion is often 120 or 240 fps. MP4 (H.264) videos work best. iPhone users: set Camera → Formats → “Most Compatible”.
